RPO Music connects

challenge

With the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra nearing its centennial year in 2024, the local music staple needed to reinvigorate its audience and reestablish itself within Rochester. Attendance and donations had been slowly declining over the past 20 years, especially since the pandemic took hold in 2020. The subscription base, which makes up the majority of its audience and ticket revenue, was nearing a historic low. The RPO needed to be repositioned and it had to start immediately to fully realize the benefits of a 100-year celebration.

solution

Since the RPO’s 100th birthday is naturally inward-focused, my first action was to evolve the brand to be more outward-focused. I created the tagline, “Music Connects” to elevate the position of the RPO within the community as a cultural music cornerstone and take the orchestra out of Kodak Hall. I actively shared the initiative with other Rochester institutions, which resulted in several new partnerships including a craft beer collaboration with Three Heads Brewing. Just months into the campaign, subscription rates returned to pre-pandemic levels and new audiences have started entering the hall, priming the RPO for a successful centennial season.

L3harris-nasa anniversaries

challenge

2018 to 2019 was a monumental year for NASA as they celebrated their 60-year anniversary and the 50-year anniversary for the Apollo missions. What was less well-known, however, was that L3Harris Technologies was their partner from the very beginning. I needed to break through the industry-wide fanfare and create awareness for not only L3Harris’ historical work with NASA, but also pivotal future work that will change our understanding of the planet and solar system as we know it.

solution

I leveraged L3Harris’ NASA program legacy and upcoming NASA milestones into an integrated marketing campaign that establishes L3Harris as a leader in the space industry and the future of space exploration. I built a list of top L3Harris-NASA program highlights and used them for storytelling, thought leadership, and content development. The integrated campaign I crafted included digital, social, and geo-targeting advertising, 12 videos, media engagements, and a special landing page. This content, released over the course of an entire year, educated the target audience on L3Harris' integral role as a longtime NASA partner and positioned them for future NASA work.

O’brother fanumentary

Challenge

Who is O’Brother and why are their fans so infatuated with them? A niche rock band with a loyal following on the cusp of breaking out was set to release their second studio album. I needed to convince the alternative music community that this was the time to give O’Brother a listen. With only two months available to work before the album release, hype had to be built fast.

solution

I created an online “fanumentary” series that puts O’Brother’s most dedicated fans in front of the camera to share their love for the band’s music. By compiling submitted interview footage from a web-based casting call and live performance footage of the band in their hometown, I led the release of a three-part series that increased fan engagement and viewership in anticipation of the upcoming new album.

Roman Space Telescope advocacy

challenge

Although the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (RST), formerly known as WFIRST, is the next major NASA flagship mission for universe exploration, it continues to have its funding cut in the annual Presidential Budget Proposal. I needed to inform the greater space science community about the importance of this mission and gain their support in keeping it funded.

Solution

I directed a team of mission partners, coalition members, and industry professionals to create content that educates and incites the audience to advocate for the RST mission. I led the development of a collection of informational content about the mission and its benefits, including a thought leadership video featuring the greatest minds in space science. Advocacy efforts were successful after program funding was restored through appropriations - twice. RST is set to launch in 2025.

As a Marketing and Creative Leader, I provide strategy, messaging, planning and management that’s intentional, emotional and has a clear growth target. I solve problems in a logical and creative way leveraging both sides of my brain. I attack challenges and have a passionate, thoughtful work ethic that brings a contagious enthusiasm, drive and curiosity to every interaction. I’m a huge fan of collaborative partnership, servant leadership and the meaningful work that comes out of it.

I'm able to work through complex challenges because I’ve encountered many myself like:

Working live TV productions while sleeping on a futon mattress in NYC right out of college.

Running my own production business out of my apartment with only a bulky 90’s camcorder.

Stepping away from a comfy creative leadership role to take on a demanding marketing management role.

Regularly working past midnight on my MBA while juggling a full-time job, new house and baby on the way.

Always challenging myself to grow and putting myself out there.

I’ll work hard to understand your core needs and provide an engaging, insightful, collaborative experience to address your complex challenges. Whether it’s leading the marketing strategy for a $1.3B business sector or providing creative direction for an Earth-changing satellite launch, I believe we can make anything happen.

Let’s talk. I’d love to know what you’re up to and how I can help you make it even better.
